Julia Higginbottom can best be described as a middle aged millenial, technologist producer and storyteller. Disruption through technology for societal change has been at the heart of her professional practice for the last 15 years. Making films and disrupting the media industry with new technology was where this practice first developed.
Whether through examining changes in storytelling through early 360 degree filming in 2007, innovating film production through new forms of sweat equity contracting, or even generating a film script through social media storytelling, she collaborates, using new tools, data and ideas to enable us to better connect; for social or commercial impact, or just for fun.
Working regularly with the open data and armchair citizen community predominantly, she also has high hopes for social impact through increasing transparency and using art techniques such as learning, iterating and improving, to facilitate change.
Just talking to Julia, I realised that she was a woman who not only got things done, but she was a powerhouse with significant political experience, passion and integrity. She inspired me to continue at times when I felt overwhelmed by the enormity of my task, and the fact that she was there to talk to gave me the courage to continue being the little pilot light until my other team members found me. Julia is brilliant. I learned SO much from her over the last couple of years. Work with her. You’ll be better for it.
I have worked with Julia in a number of settings over the past few years and I have always been impressed by the dynamic approach she takes to every project.
